Compost

Compost is recycled organic material.

The process is made possible by fungi and bacteria.

To speed up the process, these microorganisms are given extra stimulation by providing a moist environment and sufficient oxygen. An extra supply of Nitrogen can also speed up the process.

To make compost, a good selection of raw materials is first of all necessary. It will probably have to be grinded to “increase the surface”. Furthermore, purity is very important; waste wood from pallets, for example, will not like to be used (because what was on those pallets?).

The composition of nutrients also differs per raw material.

When compost is used in potting mixes, we need to be sure that the material is fully composted (so as not to get decomposition in the pots), that it is clean (no weeds) and that the chemical composition does not slow down the growth of the plants.
